Youth Innovation at the heart of local solution

Recently, Global Impact Transformation (GIT) marked a transformative step in advancing community led economic empowerment and climate smart innovation. Group 1 of the GIT Champions successfully completed an intensive Training of Trainers (ToT) on the local, low cost production of washing soap, hand soap, and Jik (bleach), skills that directly promote sustainable livelihoods, hygiene, and circular economies at the grassroots.
This initiative reflects GIT’s ongoing commitment to inclusive, locally driven development by equipping young people with the tools, knowledge, and leadership skills needed to become agents of change in their communities through W.E.L.L (Womens' Empowerment for Livelhood and Leadership) initiative.
“Climate justice begins at the grassroots, when youth are equipped with practical skills and leadership opportunities, they become the driving force behind resilient, self-reliant communities” said Martha Nghambi, Founder and Executive Director of GIT.
Practical Innovation for Real-World Impact
The training emphasized hands on learning, environmentally friendly production techniques, and peer-to-peer knowledge sharing. These youth leaders are now fully equipped to:
- Train at least 300 peers over the next 6 months across community hubs and school clubs.
- Promote safe, low-cost hygiene solutions using locally sourced materials.
- Reduce community reliance on harmful or expensive chemical-based cleaners.
- Champion climate-conscious microenterprises aligned with SDGs 1, 3, 5, 8, and 13.
What makes this training particularly innovative is its emphasis on climate smart formulation techniques, including the use of biodegradable components and non-toxic natural alternatives, and the recycling of locally available waste materials.These approaches not only reduce environmental impact but also lower production costs, making hygiene solutions more accessible for underserved communities.
By turning everyday challenges into opportunities, such as limited access to affordable hygiene products, this ToT is helping youth translate innovation into sustainable, income generating solutions that address both public health and economic inclusion.
“I never imagined I could make high quality soap and bleach with such simple materials,” shared Anna Mwaisaka, participant. “Now I’m ready to train others and even start my own small business.”
This is just the beginning. Over the coming months, GIT Champions will lead community trainings, mentor other youth, and showcase their products in local markets, proving that innovation thrives when youth are trusted, trained, and empowered.
