Across Tanzania, millions of grassroots women possess the resilience, creativity, and determination to transform their families and communities. Yet many continue to face barriers to economic opportunities, leadership, access to skills, and climate-resilient livelihoods. At Global Impact Transformation (GIT), we believe that investing in grassroots women and girls is one of the most effective ways to accelerate inclusive development, reduce poverty, strengthen community resilience, and advance sustainable economic growth. This vision is driving our flagship Women Empowerment, Entrepreneurship, Leadership and Livelihood (W.E.L.L.) Program, an integrated initiative that equips grassroots women and girls with practical skills, leadership opportunities, entrepreneurship support, and climate-smart livelihood solutions that enable them to become agents of change within their communities. Rather than delivering one-off trainings, the W.E.L.L. Program builds strong, self-sustaining women-led groups that continue learning, mentoring, innovating, and supporting one another long after project activities have ended.

Following the successful establishment and strengthening of women-led groups across Dar es Salaam, Pwani, Mtwara, and Tanga, Global Impact Transformation (GIT) has entered a new phase of scaling its flagship Women Empowerment, Entrepreneurship, Leadership and Livelihood (W.E.L.L.) Program. Building on the success of the TUCHANGAMKE Women Group in Handeni District, Tanga Region, GIT has facilitated the establishment of the TUINUKE Women Group, demonstrating the effectiveness, scalability, and sustainability of its grassroots community-led model.
A defining feature of this expansion is that the Training of Trainers (ToT) for the newly established group is being delivered by members of the TUCHANGAMKE Women Group, who previously completed GIT's ToT program. By transferring their knowledge, practical skills, and leadership experience to fellow grassroots women, these community champions are demonstrating the power of women leading women. This peer-to-peer learning approach strengthens local ownership, promotes knowledge transfer, builds community leadership, and creates a multiplier effect where program beneficiaries become trainers, mentors, and role models capable of expanding impact within their own communities.
Each newly established women-led group becomes a center for leadership development, entrepreneurship, innovation, and collective action, enabling the program to expand organically while reinforcing sustainability and community ownership. Through this approach, GIT is building a growing movement of grassroots women and girls who are not only improving their own lives but are also empowering others to become economically independent and active contributors to community development.
A distinguishing feature of the W.E.L.L. Program is its innovative integration of women's economic empowerment, climate action, and circular economy solutions. Women participating in the program are trained to transform locally available organic and household waste into alternative eco-friendly charcoal, creating climate-smart green enterprises that generate income while reducing waste, protecting forests, and promoting sustainable energy solutions.
This innovative approach enables women to establish small businesses, diversify household incomes, reduce household energy costs by using the charcoal within their own homes, and generate additional income through local sales. By applying circular economy principles, the program transforms waste into valuable products, creating green livelihood opportunities while contributing to cleaner communities, environmental protection, sustainable resource management, and Tanzania's transition towards an inclusive green economy.
Beyond generating income, this locally led innovation demonstrates how community-driven solutions can simultaneously address poverty, unemployment, environmental degradation, and climate change while expanding economic opportunities for grassroots women and girls. It reflects GIT's commitment to promoting inclusive green growth where women and girls are at the forefront of developing practical, sustainable, and locally owned solutions to today's development challenges.
Today, the W.E.L.L. Program has evolved beyond a training initiative into a growing ecosystem of women-led community groups that continue learning, mentoring, innovating, and supporting one another while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities. Across participating communities, grassroots women and girls are strengthening household resilience, promoting financial inclusion, developing entrepreneurial skills, adopting climate-smart livelihood practices, and assuming leadership roles within their communities. Through collaboration, peer learning, and collective action, these groups have become platforms where women build confidence, exchange experiences, strengthen businesses, and jointly address community challenges.
By investing in grassroots women and girls as entrepreneurs, innovators, trainers, mentors, and community leaders, GIT is creating a sustainable ecosystem where knowledge continues to multiply, opportunities continue to expand, and locally led development becomes a lasting driver of inclusive and resilient communities across Tanzania.
The long-term success of the W.E.L.L. Program is anchored in the principles of locally led development, local ownership, and sustainability, rather than creating dependency on external support, GIT invests in strengthening the capacity of grassroots women to become trainers, mentors, entrepreneurs, and community leaders who continue transferring knowledge, establishing new groups, mentoring emerging leaders, and driving community development from within.
By establishing and strengthening women-led community groups, the program creates sustainable local structures that continue functioning long after project support has ended. These groups provide permanent platforms for leadership development, entrepreneurship, financial inclusion, climate action, peer learning, and mutual support, enabling women to identify local priorities, develop practical solutions, mobilize community resources, and sustain collective action independently.
This community-led approach ensures that every investment generates long-term value by strengthening local institutions, promoting community ownership, and creating a self-sustaining model that can be replicated and scaled across Tanzania. As the program continues to expand, every new women-led group becomes part of a growing national movement advancing women's leadership, entrepreneurship, climate resilience, and inclusive community development.
The success of the W.E.L.L. Program demonstrates that investing in grassroots women and girls delivers lasting social, economic, and environmental impact. Global Impact Transformation (GIT) welcomes partnerships with organizations and individuals committed to advancing women's economic empowerment, green livelihoods, climate resilience, entrepreneurship, and locally led development.
